The National Occupational Classification (NOC) system is Canada’s national system of organizing and describing occupations. Jobs are grouped based on the type of job duties and work a person does.
For immigration purposes, the main job groups are:
• Skill Type 0 (zero): management occupations, such as:
o restaurant managers
o mine managers
o business general manager
• Skill Level A: professional occupations that usually require a degree from a university, such as:
o doctors
o engineers
o architects
• Skill Level B: technical occupations and skilled trades that usually require a college diploma or training as an apprentice, such as:
o chefs
o plumbers
o electricians
• Skill Level C: intermediate occupations that usually require high school and/or job-specific training, such as:
o industrial butchers
o long-haul truck drivers
o food and beverage server
• Skill Level D: labour occupations that usually give on-the-job training, such as:
o fruit pickers
o cleaning staff
o oil field workers
